Igor the Sequel
I still have cancer; there's a group of lesions on one side of my liver that are cancerous. I have a hazy memory of my surgeon telling me that he had done a biopsy of the one lesion that he could find while I was opened up, but I was so stoned from the pain meds that I can't remember what he said the results were.
The good news is that, assuming that the chemo slows or shrinks the lesions, they can remove that side of the liver (the liver is the one organ in the body that regenerates) and hopefully eliminate the cancer once and for all; that, of course, assumes that the cancer hasn't set up shop in another organ (I'm still waiting to hear from the oncologist on the full PET scan report, but if she had seen anything serious I think she would have contacted me directly either yesterday or today).
It does mean more surgery, recovery, and another round of chemo treatments. I'll probably be in the hospital for a lot longer this time round--the doctor I spoke to said that I would have to do my recovery in the ICU.
All in all, '09 is going to be an interesting year for me--and I mean "interesting" in the sense of the Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times".
